Michael O’Shea creates with his debut film one of the most extraordinary vampire films I have ever seen. Imagine Ken Loach would have filmed a mixture of Romero’s Martin and Alfred’s So Dark the Night.
Basically it is a coming-of-age love story between two outsiders in the down-town streets of Queens. Wundervoll played by the newcomers Chloe Levine and Eric Ruffin. Then there is vampirism.
The transfiguration is very slowly told and used a lot of time to develop the relationship of its protagonists. For me personally, this has also paid off completely, since I have with the two truly fevered, suffered and suffered.
